Organizing in the southern United States is critically important because we see many of the nation’s most regressive and oppressive policies played out with a vigor and style uncommon to the rest of the country. This is true both for historical reasons –as in the US south’s long legacy white supremacy as a means of social control- but also for reason rooted very much in the relatively recent growth of immigrant communities in the region.
